High Beeches Garden
Situated in an area of Sussex designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, High Beeches Gardens are packed with rare plants, trees and shrubs from around the world, set in 27 acres of magnificent woodland and water gardens.
Dating from 1907, many of the specimens were brought back by intrepid plant-collecting expeditions to the Far East and the Americas. The result is a superb collection of exotic and unusual plants.
High Beeches seeks to work with nature and display the finest specimens to their best effect in the landscape. The result is amazingly natural-looking gardens which have in fact been very carefully designed.
High Beeches always has something of interest to offer its visitors, be it glades full of stunning bluebells in spring, the natural Wildflower Meadow in its greatest splendour and the blossoming of the National Collection of Stewartia trees in summer or, in autumn, the North American Fall trees and maples exhibiting what has been called the finest display of colour in the country.
Other highlights include a Tree Trail with over twenty types of tree and a large collection of rare Oak trees from around the world. High Beeches is also home to many trees which are officially recognised as the tallest specimens of their type in the British Isles and which are known as Champion trees.
Special events are also held, and have included wildflower walks, Bonsai making, falconry displays and working heavy horses harrowing the wildflower meadow. Plant, gift and craft sales also take place.
A visit to the licensed Tea Room is a must for fresh, home-cooked lunches, cream teas, drinks and snacks. There is also a picnic area for visitors who prefer to bring their own refreshments.
With so much to see and do at High Beeches Gardens, it’s hardly surprising that English Heritage describes them as ‘Outstanding’.

By Bus:

- From Victoria or London Bridge to Crawley, then bus as above.
By Tube:
- District & Circle or Victoria line to Victoria, then rail and bus as above.
- Jubilee or Northern line to London Bridge, then rail and bus as above.

Opening Times
High Beeches Gardens is open from mid-March to the end of October, with exact dates varying each year. During the open season, the Gardens can be visited between 13.00 and 17.00, every day except Wednesdays, with last admissions at 16.30. The Tea Room is open 09.00 – 17.00.
Group visits can also be prearranged out of season and outside standard opening times.
